THE TREE WEARS TASSELS

Tassels, for Christmas. Groundbreaking.
'tis time!! Every year I look forward to dreaming up a fun Christmas tree, and this year's inspiration comes from my first love, fashion.
The Devil Wears Prada has always been one of my favorite films, so when the sequel was released on May 1st, my birthday of all days, it felt like the perfect little gift. Having gone to fashion school and spent years working for fashion houses in New York City, there was always something about Andy's world that felt familiar to me. Of course, our stories were different, but the energy of the city, the endless running around, the long hours, and everything that happens behind the scenes brought back so many memories. It's one of those films that reminds me why I fell in love with fashion in the first place.
We also made a big move this year, leaving New York City for San Francisco. And as if the timing couldn't have been more fitting, Vogue announced that Vogue World would be coming to San Francisco in 2027!! A city so often associated with technology is about to have its own fashion moment, and I couldn't be more excited to experience it. What are the chances?

Now, onto the inspiration behind this year's tree. A couple of years ago, I remember sharing on my Instagram stories that I had a feeling tassels were going to have a moment in interiors, and sure enough, they did!! I've always loved the movement and character they bring to a space, so when I saw Miranda Priestly wearing that incredible tassel jacket in The Devil Wears Prada 2, I was completely in awe. The colors, the texture, the movement. It was everything!!
The jacket, designed by Dries Van Noten for the Fall 2025 collection, features the most beautiful combination of soft pastels and earthy tones, with tassels cascading throughout. It's one of those pieces that reminds me why fashion is such an incredible art form. Apparently, the jacket almost didn't make it into the film, but Meryl Streep herself was determined to keep it. And thank goodness she did!! Miranda's entrance into the Runway cafeteria wearing it was such a fabulous fashion moment.

I've also admired Dries Van Noten for years, particularly the house's relationship with traditional hand embroidery and the artisans in Kolkata, India. During my own years in fashion, I worked closely with embroidery houses in India, and that appreciation for craftsmanship has never left me. There's something so special about the time and skill that goes into creating pieces by hand. It's one of the things I've always loved about fashion, and something I find myself drawn to in interiors as well.
I couldn't get that jacket out of my head, and of course it became the inspiration for this year's Christmas tree. I wanted to capture that same beautiful movement and unexpected mix of colors. Tassels are truly everywhere right now, and you can find them in every color imaginable, but I was very particular about mine. I knew exactly which colors and lengths I wanted, so I worked with two wonderful Etsy makers to create custom tassels inspired by the jacket. I also ordered a few from Amazon in different materials and thicknesses to give the tree a little more dimension.
I loved the idea of having the tassels hang freely from the branches. There's something so playful about it, and I think that's what makes this tree so much fun. It feels a little unexpected for Christmas, but that's exactly what I love about it.
Every year, I try to approach my Christmas tree a little differently. Sometimes the inspiration comes from a color, a place I've traveled to, or simply something beautiful I've come across. This year, it happened to be a jacket worn by one of fashion's most iconic fictional characters. I love that something from one creative world can find its way into another. Who would have thought Miranda Priestly would end up inspiring my Christmas decorations? Then again, perhaps it's not so surprising after all…
That's all.
