THE TILED PEDESTAL
A beautiful pedestal doesn’t have to be carved from stone. I started with a simple white laminate pedestal and layered it with handcrafted tiles, transforming it into a piece that feels warm, sculptural, and completely custom. What I love most about these tiles is their natural variation. Each one has its own subtle shift in tone, so I spent time arranging every piece before installation until it felt balanced. The result is intentional without feeling overly perfect, giving the pedestal an organic quality. To preserve that organic feel, I chose to skip grout altogether. Letting the tiles sit directly beside one another creates a softer, more natural finish that highlights their handcrafted quality.

This DIY project is so easy to do and far more budget friendly than sourcing stone pedestals. These plain pedestals can also serve as a blank canvas for other mediums like wallpaper, glass, fabrics, and more. You can truly make it personal and unique to your space.
Before getting started, I recommend sourcing all of your materials first and confirming that the tile dimensions work well with your pedestal. A little planning upfront helps minimize tile cuts and creates a much cleaner, more intentional final result.
