Set along the shimmering banks of Lake Pichola, The Oberoi Udaivilas feels less like a hotel and more like stepping into a beautifully imagined version of royal Indian living. We spent a few days here with family simply absorbing the property, wandering through its marble corridors, manicured gardens, intricate domes, carved archways, and quiet courtyards that open dramatically onto the lake. Every detail feels intentional, from the layered textures of stone and hand painted walls to the symmetry of the landscaping, reflective pools, and the way nature is woven so seamlessly into the architecture. Peacocks wandered through the grounds daily, birds echoed through the open air hallways each morning, and the entire property carried this calm, cinematic stillness that made it hard to leave. One of the most memorable experiences was stepping beyond the hotel for a majestic boat ride arranged through the property, gliding across Lake Pichola while watching the lively shoreline unfold with local markets, vendors, historic havelis, and the rhythm of the city in the background. We also spent time exploring City Palace, which added another layer of appreciation for the region’s craftsmanship, architecture, and history. Back at the hotel, dinners at Surya Mahal and Chandni became part of the experience itself, with beautifully executed Indian cuisine, candlelit views, and service that was warm, thoughtful, and deeply attentive throughout our stay. Udaivilas is one of those rare properties that allows you to fully slow down and immerse yourself in the beauty of India in an elevated, deeply sensory way, through design, hospitality, landscape, food, and atmosphere all at once.
